Robofeed: revolutionising automation with the Keyence 3D vision system <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Why stop at just one revolution, when you can continue to experiment and innovate? This is what we\u2019re doing here at Assistec<\/strong><\/a> with our industrial robotics<\/strong> division, Robofeed<\/strong><\/a>. After extending the range with Robofeed Serie C<\/strong><\/a>, Robofeed FLEXI<\/strong><\/a> and the Custom service<\/strong><\/a>, we\u2019re ready to hit another important milestone: the new Bin Picking system<\/strong> combined with the Keyence 3D vision system<\/strong><\/a>. The result of the collaboration with Keyence<\/a>, a world leader<\/strong> in the development and production of products forfor industrial automation<\/strong> and inspection equipment<\/strong>, this recent implementation has optimised the capacity of the robot to detect scattered parts in the bin<\/strong>, and therefore improved<\/strong> its ability to pick<\/strong> and palletise the parts<\/strong>. How? Using exclusive hardware and algorithms<\/strong> that meet the demands of Industry 4.0<\/strong> and Industry 5.0<\/strong> for modern smart factories<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The implementation of the Keyence 3D vision systems<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Keyence 3D robot guidance system<\/strong> stands out for its ability to detect objects<\/strong>, and for its unrivalled user-friendliness<\/strong>. This system makes it possible to automate the processes of assembly<\/strong>, depalletising<\/strong> and servicing of numerically controlled machines (CNC)<\/strong>. To generate the 3D data, the system acquires 136 images with 4 cameras<\/strong>, while the high-speed projector<\/strong> enables rapid processing of the data, boosting the overall efficacy of the process. The system is configured using a simple procedure that enables the automatic calibration of the cameras.<\/strong> In addition, it is possible to upload the CAD<\/strong> data of the part to be detected. For each object identified, the path planning<\/strong> tool calculates the complete route the robot has to follow to pick and move the part efficiently, avoiding any collision with the bin or the cell<\/strong>. The whole process can be simulated on the user\u2019s PC<\/strong>, thanks to the built-in picking simulator, which can be used to test different grippers or cell designs and simulate picking<\/strong> results without making changes to the hardware.<\/p>\n

The future of 3D vision: prospects and developments<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Most sectors in industry, including logistics<\/strong> and manufacturing<\/strong>, can today enjoy the benefits of a series of technological upgrades<\/strong>, such as: Artificial Intelligence (AI)<\/strong>, Big Data<\/strong> and 3D Vision<\/strong>. The development of the latter in particular has been significantly accelerated by the growing interest in cobots<\/strong>. There is an increasing demand for sensors for robotic systems<\/strong>, to make machines more flexible<\/strong> during production changes<\/strong>. So it comes as no surprise that manufacturers are focusing on improving them, by developing algorithms able to offer a smart interpretation of the data from the various types of sensors.<\/p>\n
